Alberta Pembina Field
Colby Cooper Inc. has the highest priority in Alberta, which is to enter into joint ventures in the Pembina area of Alberta and then acquire conventional crude oil leases in and around the area. We would prefer to restrict our activities to oil since we do not believe that our company can secure leases in the province that will equal or surpass the quality and potential of our Barnett Shale natural gas interest.
Located approximately 120 km southwest of Edmonton, the Pembina Cardium Field is the largest conventional producing field in Canada, extending over an area of approximately 800 square miles with an estimated 7.4 billion barrels of original oil in place. Over 11,700 wells have been drilled in the Pembina area. The reservoir contains sweet 39 degree API gravity crude with no associated gas cap or underlying aquifier. The Cardium forms a large stratigraphic trap in its eastern shaleout. The thickness varies from 0 to over 440 feet. It has been reported as far south as Township 14, in the foothills, and Township 17, in the mountains. Over 5,900 wells have produced from the Cardium formation.
Mobile Oil discovered the Pembina field in 1953. The original discovery well has produced over 800,000 barrels of oil and is still producing today. Even though the field is considered mature, it has proven to be a significant area for multi-zone oil.
Colby Cooper Inc. is currently consulting with various factions of the oil and gas industry in Calgary. Any and all negotiations will remain confidential until they are finalized. Technical information available at http://www.ags.gov.ab.ca/ (search Pembina).
